Sports Performance
Helping young athletes perform at their best.
Your young athlete(s) are competing at regional and national level, and have an outstanding physical training programme through their club or organisation.
Could I help enhance their performance mindset so they can truly fulfil their potential?

Mindset is as vital to sports performance as physical training and preparation. Being able to successfully regulate and manage your emotions doesn’t come naturally, it needs to be taught. This especially applies to teenage athletes, as emotional regulation is diminished in adolescence due to brain development.

My sporting background
In the 90's I chose my university to give me the best shot at getting into the GB rowing team. Unfortunately, 6 weeks in, aged 19, I had to retire before my first GB trials due to injury. I went on to qualify as an Amateur Rowing Association, (now British Rowing), Bronze level rowing coach attaining NVQ Level 3 and 4 in rowing, rigging, sports physiology, sports psychology and physical training techniques.
I took university crews from Novice level to British University Championship gold medals in a single year, with some of my rowers being selected to compete in the Senior university boats at Henley Royal Regatta. I sometimes wonder if I had known then, what I know now, how my own performance and that of my rowers could have improved even further?

Waves
Helping your mind work with you, not against you.
Sound Therapy and Peak Performance: Beyond Mental Health

While the technology behind Waves is designed to support emotional wellbeing and confidence, the science behind sound therapy extends into another critical area of young people's lives: performance and achievement.

Research demonstrates that sound therapy and vocal biomarker technology can enhance focus, reduce performance anxiety, and optimise mental states for peak performance, whether in academics, sports, or creative pursuits.

Sports Performance

Make 'Waves' a part of young athletes daily and pre-race/match routine. They will have better focus and concentration, less stress and anxiety, and improved sleep and immune systems. Research also shows that sound therapy may have a positive impact on recovery time.

Research studies and articles
Hover over the boxes below to see what they found, why it matters and to access the link to the full study or article.
1: The Neurophysiological Impact of Sound Therapy on Athletic Performance
Source: Heart and Mind, Muhammad Shahidul Islam PhD, Anup De PhD
What they found: Research examining the neurophysiological effects of sound therapy on athletes demonstrates that specific sound frequencies can optimise brain states for performance, enhance focus and concentration, reduce pre-competition anxiety, and improve recovery times. The study shows measurable changes in brainwave patterns that correlate with improved athletic performance.
Why It Matters: For young people who participate in sports or competitive activities, the same technology supporting their emotional wellbeing can also help them perform at their best when it matters most, without performance anxiety holding them back.
2: How Athletes Are Using Sound Therapy to Get Race Ready
Source: Triathlete Magazine
What they found: Increasingly, athletes are using sound therapy and specific frequencies to prepare for competition and speed up recovery. Research referenced in the article found that sound meditation can significantly reduce tension, anger, and fatigue, helping athletes shift their bodies from high stress into a calmer, recovery-focused state.

Why It Matters: For young athletes, sound can be a powerful tool to support performance and recovery. Calming or targeted sound frequencies may help athletes relax before competition, reset their nervous system after intense training, and improve focus and mental readiness.
3: Sound frequency therapy in neuroscience: a means of enhancing performance and well-being in sports
Source: International Scientific Conference Proceedings, Igor Arsene PhD
What they found: This research investigated how exposing athletes to specific sound frequencies (notably 432 Hz and 528 Hz) before and after training affected their physical and mental performance. Athletes who experienced these sound frequencies showed lower stress hormone levels, higher motivation and concentration, and faster physical recovery compared with those who weren’t exposed.
Why It Matters: For young athletes, this suggests that carefully selected sound environments, whether during warm‑ups, training, or cool‑downs, could be a simple, non‑invasive way to support stress management, focus, motivation, and recovery. Using sound frequency tools and playlists that match specific training goals might help boost overall performance and wellbeing in sport.
